SUCCESS STORIES

Carla Jenkins, '00 Senior Internal Auditor for Kaplan Higher Education in Georgia more....

Designed to create close bonds between all students, our traditions have been handed down from Big Sisters to Little Sisters since the college's founding in 1838. We only reveal some of our traditions once you are a student, but some well-known experiences include:

Traditions. A chain of ivy, delicately woven by the freshmen - and their first activity as a sister class - lines the sidewalk in front of Jewett Hall as the whole student body processes to Siloam Baptist Church on Rose Sunday. The seniors, adorned in cap and gown with the traditional single red rose pinned to their lapels, proudly lead the way during one of Judson's most popular, publicly recognized traditions.

That same weekend, upperclass students accompany freshmen to the picnics and receptions held partly at Marion Military Institute, allowing every girl the opportunity to mingle with our neighbors, the college Corps of Cadets.

Pep rallies and class "fight songs" get Hockey Day weekend off to a rousing start. They're followed by the traditional crowning of the Hockey Day Queen, memories shared during Wishing Well, costumes and candy on Halloween dorm Pop-In Night, elegant dresses and a formal dance at the end of Jr./Soph Week - all time honored traditions.

Learn about each one of the individual traditions you will be a part of as a student.

Songs. Singing has always been important at Judson. At 10 p.m. on traditional weekends, seniors serenade the underclassmen from the steps of Jewett Hall. It's a beloved occasion, drawing everyone together in the night for this expression of sisterhood. During New Student Orientation, freshmen learn the lyrics and tunes for our occasional Step Sings. They gain a greater appreciation of this tradition with each passing year.

Big/Little Sister activities. Some of our best traditions are the fun times freshmen have with their Big Sisters. We can't say too much, but Seal Parties have been known to dissolve in powdered sugar "fights." You'll never know how much fun being a woman can be until you're a Judson girl.
