When students, faculty and staff visit Dr. Gwen McCorquodale’s Marion home, they enjoy taking in the unique décor and theme of each individual room that Gwen and her Interior Designer husband, Robin have completed. Gwen, honoring her love of hosting dinner parties, often has faculty and staff over to the fondly known “blue house” for formal lunches. Her other love is teaching.
“I engage in teaching both emotionally and spiritually,” says Gwen, who is the Interim Chair of the Education Department. “These are vital components. Knowledge creates opportunities for spirituality and it helps to give purpose to life.”
With more than 30 years of teaching experience under her belt, Gwen has also had her work published in more than 20 articles including the Southern Social Studies Journal and has given over 40 International, National, Regional and State presentations on Education. She enjoys working closely with her Education students, overseeing their projects, giving them opportunities to observe elementary students in area schools and orchestrating community service learning initiatives.
“Teaching is a calling,” she says. “I value learning and I think God calls us to be stewards of our talents.”
